MAKURDI, NIGERIA — At least three people have been killed following separate attacks by suspected armed herdsmen in the Anyiase community of Moon Council Ward, located in the Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue, according Lindaikaji blog
The violence occurred between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, July 3, coming less than 24 hours after a similar assault on a rural community in Okpokwu LGA.
Akerigba Lawrence, a Supervisory Councillor in Kwande LGA, reported that the attackers ambushed farms in Anyiase at approximately 3:20 PM on Thursday. Two farmers, identified as Asongo Nagwebe and Tarzan Agbahegh, were killed on the spot.
Two other victims—a man and a woman—sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Jato-Aka General Hospital. Lawrence confirmed that the male victim tragically succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to Makurdi for specialized medical care.
In a further escalation on Friday morning, the attackers allegedly set up a roadblock at Kyoawen Junction and opened fire on a commercial passenger bus. The total number of casualties from the highway ambush remains unconfirmed.
