Akwa Ibom state governor, Emmanuel Udom has apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari over the role played by special assistant on Senate Matters, Ita Enang in the missing 2016 budget saga.
The apology of the state government was conveyed by Aniekan Umanah,
commissioner of information during a radio programme in Uyo, the state capital, Nigerian Bulletin reports.
Umanah said: “Our people were rather shocked when they heard on the news that a budget submitted in full glare before the senate had been retrieved and swapped illegally by Senator Enang, without the knowledge of the Senate leadership and this has brought severe ridicule to the image of the state.”
The commissioner added that the people of the state sympathy with Buhari over the incident adding that no one would have thought that man of Senator Enang’s status could stoop that low to have taken such action which he noted could bring the war on corruption of the president into disrepute.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate had been warned against considering the “doctored” budget presented by the presidency.
The national leadership of the Labour Party had advised the Senate to consider only the budget that was originally presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the general public and not that which was withdrawn and “doctored” afterwards.
