Eddie Jones, the England head coach, has warned his players that he is not running “a kindergarten class” and that if they want to force
their way into contention “they have to keep me interested and not me keep them interested”.
Jones has blunt advice for one of those on the fringes of England selection, Danny Cipriani, saying: “It is no use talking in the press about wanting to be an England player, you have to play like a Test player, you have to dominate club rugby, you have to prove it.”

The Australian was in strident mood as he made it clear that he would not be cutting anyone any slack or issuing any favours. Jones also revealed that the fitness levels of those who made the 23-man match-day squad for the opening two Six Nations fixtures against Scotland and Italy had increased by “30 per cent” while in camp.
England have been based in central London this week, with the head coach stressing that he wants to keep their customised Pennyhill Park location in Surrey “special” for Test weeks.
